Watts

A measurement of power. Described by the formula W = VA, where W = power in watts, V = voltage in volts, and A = amperage in amps. For instance, a lamp that draws 5 amps at 117 volts will have a wattage of 585. More often, one will need to figure amperage to make sure that loading is correct for electrical circuits. So a 1000 watt lamp at 117 volts will have a current draw of 1000/117 (A=W/V) or about 8.5 amps.
